Congratulations to Star City Schools Superintendent, Jon Laffoon, on being named Administrator of the Year by the Arkansas Art Educators (AAE). He received the award for his support of art education in our schools. The AAE Awards Committee selected him to receive the 2019 Administrator of the Year Award, a very prestigious honor for an administrator in Arkansas who has championed the importance of arts in education.

Mr. Laffoon recognizes the importance of teachers in creating a quality education system for our students in the Star City School District.  Within the district he has supported our arts programs at every school and ensured our art programs are funded.  Mr. Laffoon stated, “It is an honor to be the recipient of the AAE Administrator of the Year Award. When teachers select an administrator for an award, it is truly reflective of the dedicated staff and amazing students that are in the school classroom doing the work. We are fortunate at Star City to have committed arts educators who ensure our students receive a well-rounded education.  I look forward to sharing with other educators about Star City School District strong arts programs. It is truly a blessing to represent our school, community, and state as the AAE “Administrator of the Year.”

With funding and support, our students can participate at local, regional, and state competitions. Mr. Laffoon also supports pursuing personalized professional development for our arts educators and that allows our students to receive robust art experiences. Mr. Laffoon participated as a speaker at the Arkansans for the Arts Roundtable, and he is passionate about the strong value of arts in public schools.  Mr. Laffoon will receive this award at the annual AAE Fall Conference held in North Little Rock.
